Optical components for industrial vision and lighting applications

From design to manufacturing, import to export, custom precision optical components and systems have been our forté since 1988.

MidOpt inventories a wide selection of optical components and materials. Our existing stock can often be quickly and economically modified to meet your specific needs. Combine this with extensive in-house optical metrology and experienced opticians, to assure that the most exacting optical requirements are achieved and maintained, and it becomes obvious why Midwest Optical is considered by many to be a preferred vendor.

Diffusers, Beamsplitters, Dust Covers
Various glass window and diffuser materials are available from stock, including anti-reflection coated, ground, etched, opal, flashed opal and high-transmission textured glass for UV, visible and infrared wavelengths. An infinite variety of sizes, shapes, and standard and custom thicknesses can be provided. Economical clear, colored and/or diffuse plastic/polymer materials are also available in sheet form or custom laser-cut shapes.

Beamsplitter plate material is inventoried in different thicknesses (0.5 to 3.0mm), for specific wavelength ranges from visible to IR, and in various transmission/reflection ratios. A second-side anti-reflection coating is normally recommended and thus is offered as standard.

MidOpt is a major supplier of all the above materials/components to many well-known machine vision lighting manufacturers.

Mirrors and Reflectors
Enhanced aluminum and dielectric mirror sheet is carried in stock in various thicknesses. This material is fabricated according to your specifications. More durable, high-efficiency dichroic reflectors (sometimes referred to as dichroic beamsplitters) are also available to reflect desired wavelengths while passing other light.

MidOpt stocks red, green, blue, near-infrared (hot mirror) and visible (cold mirror) reflectors which are sized to your requirements. In addition to flat sheet materials, the above can be supplied in right angle (prism), concave, convex and any other configuration.

light pipesLight Pipes
Glass, plastic and fused quartz light pipes of various lengths and profiles are custom-fabricated to efficiently gather and distribute light to desired areas within an inspection system or to homogenize light and provide more uniform or even illumination. Cylindrical, square, rectangular and hexagonal profiles are typically provided in either straight or tapered configurations.

We would be pleased to quote on developing and delivering the perfect items for your custom needs.

Custom Optics

MidOpt regularly supplies custom and stock optical components to manufacturers of machine vision and commercial lighting products.

Examples of these components include: photo of a variety of custom components

  • precision optical windows
  • diffusers, focusing lenses
  • mirrors
  • light pipes
  • filters
  • polarizers
  • beamsplitters
  • prisms
  • wedges
  • dust covers.

We routinely process orders ranging in size from one to tens of thousands of pieces.

State-of-the-art, PC-controlled equipment for cutting and shaping the most complex plastic or glass configurations, insures accuracy and quick turn-around. Lead times for newly ordered items are usually less than one week, with repeat orders frequently shipped from stock.

Larger components used in industrial web process applications are also created at MidOpt, such as:

  • economical UV-transmitting quartz windows
  • cylindrical and rod light line lenses
  • reflectors
  • filters
  • polarizers
  • UV hot and cold mirrors.

3000 test glass radii

We have more than 3000 test glass radii in house, one of the largest inventories of test glasses in the world. This not only helps eliminate many custom tooling charges, but aids greatly in shortening delivery lead times. A complete test glass listing can be provided on request; it is also available with current versions of Zemax and Oslo optical design software.
